HCMC Restaurant List Updates: May 2023

Welcome back to an intended monthly and unintended lengthy overview of my dining adventures here in Saigon. The updates include places I’ve newly added to my HCMC Restaurant List and mentions of ones I’ve returned to during the past month. The list and these updates are for paid subscribers, and I hope adding colour to the list each month will make it both more useful and more interesting. I’m excited to move the who/what/where/why of my eating adventures here.

Given how much I like having regular haunts, I’m happy with the number of new entries to the list, especially given there are always places I try that don’t make it on—a very popular izakaya was the most notable of my recent disappointments. I got in a number of noodle and rice dishes, including a notable one from Hanoi; some sweets; and a classic District 3 street food spot. Most exciting for me was an overdue excursion to District 4 for snails.
